The athleticism and fury that enabled Novena Rosas to fight her way up out of the migrant camps made her the strict, tough, somewhat scary cop that a borderline enclave like Barrio Lobo probably needs. But the young gunslinger jock wasn't prepared for the firepower of pro gunners brought in to back up a real estate grab. When the mercenaries jump off a war with the local gang, she stalks in ready to settle it...and gets shot by a handsome gunman who tells her she should drop the cop thing and hook up with him.
Humiliated by her defeat and frustrated by the inactivity of medical leave, Rosas is ready to boil over when the vice squad asks her to help them get inside a cocaine distributorship that works through lesbian bars and gyms. The cute, built Rosas gets inside in a hurry... and ends up beating her first contact to a pulp. She follows the coke trail, using her body as a lure, then thrashing a series of young lesbian funlovers. Her violence troubles her, but she's ready to go back on active duty. Sylvia, the doctor who examines her for return to duty, consults with the police because she likes rough, tough girls. She gets that and more with Rosas, who almost ends her breast exam with a beating, but instead melts into an embrace. The beauty--and the sheer danger--of the hard young cop overwhelm Sylvia and Rosas does a little sorting out of her self-image, the two settle in to a passionate relationship. Until Rosas catches Sylvia with some cocaine and comes within a quivering inch of beating the crap out of her. Sylvia realizes, to her mingled terror and excitement, that Rosas is the "Pain Angel": a new legend in the lesbian community, a threat of disabling violence behind any pickup. Sylvia starts sorting out what's behind Rosas' violent response to drugs and sex, gets her into a child abuse support group. Which is when the man who shot her shows back up and Rosas pulls her shotgun out of the closet and goes after him. |
